Trish Klassa, MSN, RN, CNS-C, IBCLC

Trish has been an obstetric nurse for more than 34 years and is currently working as a clinical nurse specialist at the Birthing Center at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital as well as clinical adjunct faculty at Michigan State University. One of the topics she is passionate about is the compassionate care of obstetric patients, especially those at-risk and vulnerable populations. She was involved in the implementation of an innovative program, “Through the Patient’s Eyes” where patients are invited back to discuss birth through their eyes. It is through this program that she became passionate about speaking to nurses about compassionate care of vulnerable women as well as compassion fatigue and care of “SELF”. She is a regular lecturer at the local, state and national level on numerous topics in obstetrics as well as this one. Some of the awards she has received include the National Award for Excellence in Practice from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), the Shadow of Influence Award and Clara Ford Award for Nursing Excellence in the category of education and research from Henry Ford Health System and the Oakland County Domestic Violence Prevention Award.
